A. How to Draw a Duck in 5 Easy Steps!

When you are a parent, your children sometimes don't understand that you cannot do absolutely everything. Adults have a diverse collection of talents and skills. But to your child, they firmly believe that your vast years of experience qualify you for any task they can think of. Here is a simple drawing tutorial on drawing a duck for those who may have children who are convinced you can draw anything. With these simple steps, you can meet the challenge of drawing a duck for your ever-trusting child.

This duck is akin to a rubber duck. But, by following the simple step-by-step guide, you will be able to produce a very cute duck for your kids. Then your child will be able to color and create to their heart's content. Or, this tutorial can also be used to help beginners as a drawing lesson to practice basic shapes and line patterns. Enjoy!

Step 1: Draw the Eye

Start by drawing an imperfect circle to represent the duck's eye. Next, draw a second small circle inside of the first. This smaller circle should be oriented in the direction you want the duck to be looking. Complete the step with a curved line above the larger circle as an eyebrow.

Step 2: Create the Head

In this step, you will be drawing the head around the eyeball. To do this, draw a sort of lightbulb shape up and around the eye; the eye should be oriented towards the left side of the head shape. Do not close the light bulb shape at the bottom, this opening will be the duck's neck.

Step 3: Add the Beak

I picture it as drawing half of a banana or crescent moon to draw the duck's bill. For the top part of the beak, draw a half banana shape coming out of the front of the head with the curve going upwards toward the top of the page. For the bottom of the beak, draw a smaller half banana underneath the first one, but this shape should curve down towards the bottom of the page. While the two shapes curve away from each other at the ends, they should connect closely together at the head.

Step 4: Create the Body

To draw the duck's body, first, draw a half-circle C shape from the bottom of the neckline that curves around to create the duck's chest. Next, continue that line from the bottom of the C that gradually goes beyond the head, curving up towards the tip of the tail. Finally, finish the main body by drawing a wavy line from the end of the tail that connects to the back of the duck's head. The curve upwards at the tail will give the appearance of tail feathers.

Step 5: Draw the Wing

The final step is to draw the wing inside of the duck's body. To start, draw an imperfect straight line over to the right. Then, curve this line around in a sort of fish hook shape back towards the head of the duck. With these two lines combined, you should have a wing-looking shape. Finish the wing by adding horizontal lines to represent the wing's feathers.

B. How to Draw a Duck in 9 Easy Steps!

Ducks are also referred to as "waterfowl" since they typically inhabit wet environments like ponds and rivers. Depending on the species and if they are properly cared for, ducks can live for up to 20 years. The amount of daylight has an impact on egg production. The ducks will lay more eggs when there is more daylight. These gifted swimmers have waterproof feathers, which have a waxy coating that protects an inner layer of down, to keep them warm and dry. Some kinds of ducks may dive as deep as 240 feet, while others can fly as high as 21,000 feet. They can fly long distances and can travel at speeds of up to 60 mph with the aid of the wind.

Step 1: Draw the Head and Body

Get started by drawing the head and the body of the duck. To do this, draw a small oblong on the upper, right side of your paper. Then, draw a big oblong in the center. This will serve as the body of your duck.

Step 2: Add the Neck

Now that we are done with the head and the body, let's connect the two parts by drawing the duck's neck. Start drawing this from the left side of the head going down to the body. Do the same on the other side, but start the line on the lower, right portion of the head then go down to the body.

Step 3: Draw the Beak and the Tail

Let's help the duck to have its beak by drawing it. From the upper, right portion of the head, draw a not-so-perfect line going downward then slightly curve on the bottom part. After that, draw another line on the lower, right portion of the head then slightly curve on the bottom part. This lower pick must be shorter than the upper beak.

Then connect the two lines by drawing an inverted letter V on the center of the two lines. For the tail, draw an irregular shape on the left side of the body and our reference image above will help you get this shape right.

Step 4: Create the Feather and Eye Guide

This time, we will add feathers to the tail of our duck. To do this, just simply draw a connected up-down stroke on the tail that you've drawn earlier. Check the reference image above to get the perfect feather for the tail. This up-down stroke will not go beyond the curve line that you've drawn in step three. Then, draw a small circle in the center of the head.

Step 5: Remove Extra Line and add the Eyeball

Remove the extra line on the upper portion of the feather of the tail. Then, to connect the tail to the neck, erase the line on the lower left side of the head. Add the crescent moon shape inside the eye guide that you made earlier.

Step 6: Add Details

For the details, draw a wavy line from the upper portion near the neck going down to the bottom part of the body. Then, draw a long horizontal line under the duck. This is the guide to drawing water later.

Step 7: Complete the Water and the Feather

In drawing the water, just simply use the horizontal line below the duck in making a perfect circle. For the feather, draw a big letter C inside the body, this letter C is facing upward. This is the preparation for the feather in the next step.

Step 8: Remove Extra Line and complete the Feather

We are done with the water for the duck, now erase the horizontal line in the middle of the water. For the feather, draw a connected curved line from the top left side of the letter C that you've drawn earlier. These three curves look like a finger. Then draw a short horizontal line on the neck of your duck.

Step 9: Finish up!

Finally, we are on the last step of our drawing tutorial. Let's bring your duck to life by putting colors on it. Show to them your creativity by coloring your duck. Pick your favorite color for it.  You can add more color to it but make sure that the colors are good.
